Privacy Policy for Voice to Type

Last Updated: September 6, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the Voice to Type Chrome extension (the “Extension”), developed by ManiStack, handles information while converting speech to text and inserting recognized text into a field selected by the user.

Core Principle: ManiStack does not operate a server for the Extension and does not receive, collect, store, sell, or share your audio or transcripts. Chrome’s speech-recognition service may process microphone audio as described below.

1. Information the Extension Handles

  • Microphone audio: The Extension requests microphone permission so you can dictate. Its permission-check stream is released immediately. Chrome’s Web Speech API separately manages speech capture and recognition and may transmit audio to the browser’s speech-service provider, such as Google. The Extension does not save audio files or send audio to a ManiStack server.
  • Recognized text and selected fields: Recognized text is shown temporarily in the recording window and inserted into the field you select. The Extension accesses that field’s current value or text selection only as needed to place the text. It does not persist transcripts or field contents.
  • Settings: Your selected dictation language is stored through chrome.storage.sync and may sync with your Chrome profile.
  • Temporary session and diagnostic information: Recording status, tab and document routing, and opaque session or field identifiers are kept in temporary extension session storage. The most recent error code and timestamp may be stored locally for troubleshooting. These records do not contain audio, transcripts, field contents, or browsing history.

2. How Information Is Used

The Extension handles this information solely to:

  • convert speech to text at your request;
  • insert recognized text into the field you selected;
  • remember your language preference;
  • route text to the correct tab, document, frame, and field; and
  • display recording status and troubleshoot operational errors.

ManiStack does not use or transfer this information for advertising, analytics, profiling, unrelated purposes, lending, or determining creditworthiness.

3. Third-Party Processing

Voice recognition is provided by Chrome’s built-in Web Speech API. Depending on your browser and configuration, Chrome may send microphone audio to its speech service provider, such as Google, over an encrypted connection. That processing is governed by the browser provider’s terms and privacy policy. ManiStack does not receive the audio or recognized text from that provider.

After the Extension inserts recognized text into a website, that website may process or store the text according to its own behavior and privacy policy. The Extension does not submit forms or send messages on your behalf.

4. Storage, Retention, and Deletion

Audio and transcripts are not stored by the Extension. Temporary routing and recording state lasts only for the active browser session. Your language setting remains in Chrome storage until you change it, clear the Extension’s data, or uninstall the Extension. A diagnostic error code and timestamp remain locally until a later successful recording clears them or you clear the Extension’s data.

5. Permissions and Page Access

  • storage is used for the language preference, temporary session routing, recording status, and the latest diagnostic error.
  • Microphone permission is requested through browser Web APIs and is used only when you start a microphone test or dictation session.
  • Page access lets the Extension locate the focused editable field and insert text there. The Extension does not collect visited URLs or general browsing history.

6. Security and Limited Use

Speech-service communication is managed by Chrome using secure connections. The Extension contains no developer-operated analytics, advertising, or transcript collection endpoint.

The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

7. Children’s Privacy

The Extension is not directed to children under 13, and ManiStack does not knowingly collect personal information from children through the Extension.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy when the Extension’s functionality or applicable requirements change. The revised policy will be posted on this page with an updated date.
